Fans joked on Twitter that Jose Mourinho will be loving the fact Paul Scholes quit Oldham
Scholes was one of a number of former United players who publicly voiced a displeasure at the job Mourinho was doing as his tenure at Old Trafford hurtled towards a sour end after two years.
But the 44-year-old has now had a taste of how hard management can be first-hand and fans joked on social media he may be forced to eat some humble pie after quitting his job this week.
Twitter feeds quickly became an echo chamber for laughing Mourinho GIFs and posts about how the Portuguese boss will react to Scholes’ departure.
Scholes, who regularly criticised Mourinho at Man United, resigned after a month in charge
One fan joked: ‘I bet Mourinho is pissing himself,’ after the news of Scholes’ resignation filtered through on Thursday night.
Another fan wrote (tongue in cheek, mind): ‘Luckily for Paul Scholes, Jose Mourinho is not the type to remember everything he said about him during his time at Manchester United then bring up his subsequent short stint at Oldham Athletic when the opportunity arises. Possibly.’
Mourinho is yet to comment on the situation, but it seems that everyone will be keeping an ear to the ground for his response. ‘You can expect fireworks,’ one user claimed.
