Unknown persons booked for disclosing victim’s name

The police have booked unknown persons for disclosing the name of a minor girl whose alleged rape on 8 May triggered widespread protests across Kashmir.

 The FIR has been
registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and
the Ranbir Penal Code against the persons who had also uploaded videos
revealing her identity on social media.

A police official said that social media accounts that
revealed her identity are being verified and the persons using these accounts
would be brought to the book.

Section 23 of the POCSO Act prohibits publishing any matter
which may disclose the identity of a minor rape victim.
