Congress sounds poll bugle in Kathua

Congress sounded its election bugle in Kathua Friday opening a campaign office for Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha segment where the party is fielding Vikramaditya Singh.

Singh is a former lawmaker and son of Karan Singh who was elected from this constituency four times on Congress ticket.

“And I am sure that people of Kathua, Udhampur and Doda will make the Congress party win again from this seat,” the junior Singh said.

On the occasion of opening of the campaign office Vikramaditya said if his party win the upcoming parliamentary elections declaring his grandfather Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday as a state holiday would be his first step.

“Those who contested and won elections making declaration of holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday as a poll plank, failed in doing so,” Vikramaditya said.

“As PDP MLC, I and some other members made it happen that a resolution about declaration of holiday on Maharaja’s birthday was passed in Legislative Council, but the BJP leaders didn’t raise any voice in favour of this issue in the lower house of the State legislature.”

On why Congress didn’t project the issue of declaration of holiday in its 60 years of rule in the country, Singh said, “Politics is an evolving process. With the evolution, the young politicians make the elders understand about the need of the hour. If not then, let us make it happen now.”

The junior Singh also attacked BJP for allegedly neglecting the people of Jammu region in its over three years rule.

He said that in BJP’s rule, no major project in the region was executed and the party also failed in representing the people and their fair voices.

Vikramaditya also thanked Ghulam Nabi Azad and AICC president, Rahul Gandhi for reposing faith in him by giving him the mandate of the Kathua-Udhampur-Doda LS segment.
