West Ham have announced that a record number of fans have renewed their season tickets on the first day of sales – with numbers up between three or four times the previous best first-day sales in a sign of the feel-good factor at the club as they chase Champions League qualification.

Season ticket renewals went on sale at lunchtime on Tuesday and thousands have already signed up ahead of the expected return of supporters to the London Stadium next season.

It is another example of how David Moyes has helped transform the mood at West Ham and the excitement among fans about the direction of the team.

The Hammers are fourth in the Premier League with eight games to go and are targeting a place in the Champions League for the first time in their history.

With West Ham on course to deliver European football, in a message to supporters Moyes has said he wants them to be “up near the top of the league” next season.

“I am hoping that supporters when they return are going to see a team that they are really thrilled to see playing,” he said.

“You are going to see a young, energetic team, hungry, and a team that is pushing to try and be up near the top of the league as much as we can.”

West Ham have frozen season ticket prices across all bands for next season, which will be captain Mark Noble’s final season as a player at the club.

In a message to fans, Noble said: “Obviously it is a little bit special for me because it will be my last in front of you. To have you there for the last season in a claret and blue shirt will be special for me. Hopefully getting to say goodbye in the best way possible.”
