English Premiership side Aston Villa on Wednesday announced the signing of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal in a reported £20 million deal, the club announced.
The 28-year-old who last season lifted the FA Cup has signed a four-year deal to move to the midlands.
“We are really pleased with the signing of our new goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez,” head coach Dean Smith said.
“We know how highly Arsenal rated him and we watched his outstanding performances last season in a trophy-winning top side.
“We moved for Emi when we saw the opportunity, as it is rare to be able to buy a top class goalkeeper who hasn’t yet reached their peak age and who can therefore be a key player for our Club for the long term.”
The Argentine makes the move in the hopes of securing his place as his national team’s first-choice goalkeeper with regular football.
Martinez who joined Arsenal in 2012 penned an emotional farewell message to the Gunners faithful when his move was made official as the club’s longest-serving player.
