Brentford and Fulham stars who may just finally end up within the Premier League although they lose play-off last

Brentford will take on Fulham in the Championship play-off final and the stakes are high for everyone involved.

The players have a shot at earning themselves a place in the Premier League – but all might not be lost for those who end up on the losing side with a golden ticket to the top flight still possible.

Brentford’s front three of Said Benrahma, Ollie Watkins and Bryan Mbeumo have managed 59 goals between them and Fulham also boast one of the strongest squads in the second tier. Sportsmail has taken a look at the players who are likely to end up playing in the Premier League regardless of the result on Tuesday.

BRENTFORD

BRYAN MBEUMO

Scoring 16 goals during your first season in the Championship is impressive for any player. But to do so at the age of 20 and from the right wing is even more noteworthy.

The France Under 21 international has formed part of a devastating frontline for Thomas Frank’s side who finished the campaign as the division’s top scorers.

Mbeumo has also chipped in with eight assists and his young age makes him an attractive proposition to Premier League clubs.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: Crystal Palace are a team seemingly looking at the rising talent in the Championship with Wilfried Zaha linked with a move away from Selhurst Park once more.

JOSH DASILVA

The former Arsenal academy product joined Brentford in 2018 and has become a key part of the team’s midfield.

Still only 21, Dasilva can use his strength and power to make a challenge as well as get forward – weighing in with nine goals and four assists for the free-scoring side.

His education in the Gunners academy means he is confident on the ball and quick to look for a forward pass to breakdown the opposition.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: Burnley are yet to replace Jeff Hendrick who left the club at the end of his contract and Sean Dyche could look to add some more firepower to his midfield.

OLLIE WATKINS

After operating as a wide man in the 2018-2019 campaign, Watkins was asked to step up to play as a centre forward when the club failed to replace Neal Maupay.

The transition couldn’t have gone better with the Englishman scoring 25 goals in the league – the same number Maupay managed last season. Watkins took his overall tally to 26 with a goal in the second leg of the play-off semi-final against Swansea.

His efforts earned him the EFL’s Championship Player of the Year award and top-flight clubs have already been circling.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: Palace have previously been linked with the 24-year-old while Chelsea, West Ham and Southampton have also been credited with interest.

RICO HENRY

A regular at left-back, Rico Henry has played almost every minute for Thomas Frank’s side this season.

The 23-year-old has helped the Bees keep 16 clean sheets in the league and was part of a side that went on a run of five games without conceding a goal from March into the June restart.

The defender, who has played for England at youth level, has been a consistent performer in the club’s promotion push.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: West Ham have been on regular scouting trips to Griffin Park and Henry is one of the players David Moyes’ side are said to have been watching. Dean Smith is also clearly a fan, signing the left-back for the Bees after working with him at Walsall – could he look to make it three clubs with the defender?

SAID BENRAHMA

After losing Maupay to Brighton, it was vital the Bees held on to their other star man in order to push for promotion.

Benrahma has 17 goals for the season, seven more than he managed in the previous campaign and he has also contributed nine assists.

The forward has shown he can be a match-winner with two hat-tricks against Hull and Wigan. His exploits have not gone unnoticed and if the Bees miss out on promotion he will not be short of options.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: Chelsea and Aston Villa have both been linked with the 24-year-old who seems destined to play in the top-flight next season, whether it be with Brentford or another club.

FULHAM

ALEXSANDAR MITROVIC

Often a divisive figure due to his previous disciplinary issues, there’s no doubting the goalscoring talents of Alexsandar Mitrovic.

The striker has netted 24 times for Parker’s side and Fulham are desperately hoping their top scorer will be fit for the final at Wembley.

Should his side miss out on a place in the top-flight, the striker has proven he can play in the Premier League with 21 goals in 77 appearances for both Fulham and Newcastle.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: Everton have been linked with the forward in the past while Aston Villa were said to have been interested in January.

JOSH ONOMAH

After a difficult start to life at Craven Cottage following his arrival from Tottenham, Josh Onomah has found form at the perfect time of the season.

The midfielder produced a bit of magic to score a stunning solo goal in his side’s first leg play-off fixture against Cardiff and has progressed well under Parker’s guidance.

The 23-year-old has been one of the impressive players since the restart with three goals and two assists and seems to have shaken off the early doubters.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: The midfielder has had two loan spells with Steve Bruce – one at Aston Villa and one at Sheffield Wednesday. The Newcastle boss is clearly a fan.

MICHAEL HECTOR

Michael Hector signed for Fulham in September but had to wait for the January transfer window to clear his £8million move from Chelsea before he could make his debut.

The centre back stepped straight into the team and has been an important part of the club’s push for promotion.

Fulham’s defence has improved significantly since his arrival. The 28-year-old has helped his side keep 10 clean sheets since the turn of the year and has been given the name ‘Virgil van Mike’ by his team-mates.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: Hector also played under Bruce at Sheffield Wednesday and was also around the Reading academy when Brendan Rodgers was briefly manager of the Royals. His 15 career loan spells has certainly given him plenty of experience.

TOM CAIRNEY

Tom Cairney was the hero when he scored Fulham’s winning goal in the Wembley play-off final in 2018 and the midfielder will be hoping he can recreate that moment on Tuesday.

Parker did well to hold on to the 29-year-old after the club were relegated last season but failing to achieve an instant return to the top flight could change things. Rafa Benitez was said to have shown an interest before departing St James’ Park last summer.

The captain has weighed in with eight goals and three assists and is also known for his ability at set pieces. He has never been able to establish himself in the Scotland national team with just a handful of senior call-ups but playing in the top flight would certainly improve his chances.

POSSIBLE DESTINATION: West Ham, Southampton and Newcastle have been linked with the midfielder in the past but while the clubs were under different managers.
