Liverpool officially launch new Nike kit as American sports giants pay homage to 1993 side by kitting out Jurgen Klopp’s title winners with green trim
- Next season Liverpool will wear Nike shirts for the first time in their history
- The new home shirt has been released and contains a throwback element
- Nike have brought back the green trim which the Reds wore in the early 1990s
- The elite tier version of the kit is set to retail at the eye-watering £100 mark
It is the first offering from US sportswear giants Nike, after their multi-million pound deal signed with the Reds earlier in the season.
And the design shows hints of a throwback to yesteryear, with Liverpool returning to a green trim on the collar and cuffs of the shirt for the first time since the early 90s.
Liverpool have officially released their new Nike home shirt for the coming 2020/21 season
Captain Jordan Henderson is seen wearing the new strip, which contains a green trim
Nike, who ousted fellow Americans New Balance to produce the kits for Jurgen Klopp’s side, have based their model on that of the 1993/95 design by Adidas.
The reigning English champions have signed a five-year deal with Nike, who are set to release an away shirt and third shirt in the coming weeks, along with two alternate colour goalkeeper shirts.
But those fans hoping to get their hands on the elite tier version of the kit, as worn by the players, may be a little disheartened by the price.
Nike are promoting the kit with the slogan ‘Tell us never,’ referring to Liverpool’s title status
The shirt will also be worn by the Liverpool women’s team for the upcoming campaign
Fans were left alarmed after seeing the ‘Vapor Match Home’ version retails at almost £100
On Friday images circulated of Nike having added the shirt to their online website, where fans could see the ‘Vapor Match Home’ shirt retailing at £99.95.
A ‘stadium home’ version of the shirt could also be seen on the site, priced at £69.95.
Nike have ran with the promotional tag line of ‘Tell us never, when the world thinks it can’t be done, boss it!’
The slogan relates to the club’s new found success, after Liverpool finally ended their 30-year to be crowned kings of England once again.
The Nike shirt therefore will sport gold Premier League patches during the coming season, to signify Liverpool’s reign as champions.
The kit shows throwback reference to the green-trimmed home shirt worn from 1993 to 1995
Liverpool are set to first wear the new kit during pre-season activity, with a full run of Nike training range also set to be released for the club.
Klopp’s men will also take the new shirt to Wembley stadium, when they face either Arsenal or Chelsea in the curtain-raiser for next season, the Community Shield final.
