Roy Hodgson has admitted Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha may be granted his desire to leave this summer.

The 27-year-old has made no secret of his ambition to quit the club at the end of the season – and it appears his potential exit is edging closer after the Eagles boss revealed any move would hinge on the offers received.

Zaha was recently the subject of major interest from Arsenal and Everton, and revealed to Sportsmail last year that he wanted to leave Selhurst Park in search of a new challenge.

However, to Zaha’s frustrations, negotiations with both Premier League clubs reached a stumbling block over Palace’s £80million valuation. Sportsmail also understands Newcastle may swoop should their change in ownership be ratified.

And when questioned about Zaha’s uncertain future, Hodgson said: ‘Wilf has made it clear, ever since I came to the club really, that he would relish a move and would like to move on and find some pastures new.

‘But he’s a very valuable player and the club realises his value and appreciates his value and so really everything will depend I guess – as it always does – [on] what sort of offers the club is going to receive for him and how they will equate that with the need to keep him or the need, maybe, to satisfy his wishes, and allow him to go after giving good service to the club for a period of time.

‘Quite frankly, I’ve got no answer to that question, it will be all a matter, I guess, of seeing what transpires.’

But once again the financial outlay of any deal may cause protracted negotiations.

The uncertainty stemming from the coronavirus crisis has disrupted transfer business this summer, and it remains to be seen whether clubs will return with exorbitant offers for Zaha again.

Hodgson believes, however, that the Ivory Coast international would still command offers of around the £80m mark.

‘I think he should, because he’s a very top quality player,’ he added.

‘But, as I say, that will be a decision and matter anyway for [chairman) Steve Parish and the other owners of the club.

‘They will have to take any offers into consideration and I’m pretty certain that I will be consulted and at the end of the day the final decision will have to be a club one.’
