Manchester United brushed aside struggling Aston Villa to strengthen their bid for the Champions League spots.

Bruno Fernandes brought an end to a vibrant start from the struggling hosts after winning a controversial penalty from Ezri Konsa’s challenge. The Aston Villa defender was judged to have clattered into the playmaker just inside the area, and Fernandes duly buried the chance from 12 yards.

United doubled their lead before half-time, and moved closer to the top four spots, when Mason Greenwood crashed home from the edge of the box. The in-form youngster cut inside on his right foot and ripped his effort beyond Pepe Reina.

Paul Pogba added further gloss to the scoreline after tucking in a neat effort from outside the box, further denting Villa’s hopes of preserving their Premier League status.
