The Hero Indian Open 2020 has become the latest event on the European Tour to be cancelled due to the threat posed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The Indian Golf Union, the national body for golf in India, announced the cancellation on Friday.
The tournament was initially scheduled for March before being postponed to later in the year, but following consultation with the event’s co-sanctioning partners the European Tour and Asian Tour, the decision has now been made to cancel it entirely.
The Acting President of the Indian Golf Union, Lt Gen D Anbu (Retd), said: :It was a very difficult decision, but the right one under the present circumstances of the ongoing pandemic.
“With no likelihood of any respite in the foreseeable future, safeguarding the health and well-being of all players, officials and spectators is of paramount importance.”
