Date showed for when Liverpool will raise Premier League name | Game

Liverpool’s
30-year wait for a league title is over after they were confirmed as Premier
League champions.

Second-placed
Manchester City had to win at Chelsea to prolong the Reds’ wait for at least
another week but fell to a 2-1 defeat on Thursday night.

It means
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won the title – the club’s first since 1990 – with a
record seven games to spare.

Liverpool’s
remarkable league campaign has seen them win 28 of their 31 fixtures.

They can
break City’s Premier League record of 100 points for a campaign if they go on
to win five of their remaining seven matches.

The Reds’
title success is the 19th in the club’s history, moving them one behind
Manchester United’s English record.

The
Merseyside Reds will have to wait until Saturday, 18 July to lift the Premier
League title in their final home match of the season against Chelsea.

Liverpool
have already set five new records:

  • The best start to a season (79 points from 27 matches before losing 3-0 to Watford)
  • The most points
    won over 38 games
(Liverpool set a record of 104 points from 38 Premier League matches)
  • The most home wins in a row (23 consecutive home wins)
  • The biggest lead at top of the
    table
(Liverpool had a 25 point lead at one stage of the season, which is the largest ever in the English top division.)
  • The earliest a team has ever won the title (won the title with seven games remaining)

However,
the Reds can still break five more records in their remaining seven matches:

  • The most
    wins in a season
(record: 32 wins held by Man City – Liverpool currently on 28),
  • The most
    home wins in a season
(record: 18 wins held by Man City, Man United and Chelsea
    – Liverpool currently on 16)
  • The most
    away wins in a season
(Man City won 16 of their 19 away games in 2017/18. Liverpool have four away matches left to play and have won 12 out of 15 so far)
  • The most
    points in a season
(record: Man City with 100 points – Liverpool need another 14 points to beat that record from a remaining possible 21 points)
  • The biggest
    winning margin
(record: Man City won the title by a 19-point gap in 2017/18. Liverpool are currently 23 points ahead with seven matches remaining)
