‘First impressions are very, very good’: Scott McTominay reveals how Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo have settled in at Manchester United and how ‘good people is what we need at this football club’

Scott McTominay has been impressed with new signings Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo since their arrival at Manchester United

Fernandes completed his long-awaited transfer from Sporting Lisbon during the final days of the transfer window, while striker Ighalo signed on loan from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua with hours of the window left. 

Midfielder McTominay, who is currently absent with a knee injury, said the pair have made good first impressions and are likeable people outside of football.

‘They are really, really nice guys. First and foremost they are good people. That’s what we need at this football club,’ McTominay told Sky Sports

‘We need people who are good friends, obviously, who can go out for dinner for everybody as well. 

‘What they bring onto the pitch we have seen that, and hopefully they can bring a lot for us. First impressions are very, very good.’

McTominay, when he returns from injury, will be playing alongside Portuguese international Fernandes in the centre of midfield for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. 

Following his £68m move, the 25-year-old made his debut in the goalless draw against Wolves on Saturday.

Ighalo, meanwhile, was handed the number 25 shirt upon his arrival and has spoken avidly of how playing for the Red Devils was ‘his dream‘ growing up. 

Both signings will be looking to help bolster United’s bid for the Champions League places in the Premier League – they are currently seventh in the table, six points off Chelsea in fourth. 

The United squad are currently on holiday amid the Premier League winter break – they return to action with a trip to Stamford Bridge on February 17.
