Darlington have announced they have given their full backing to their player Luke Trotman to appear on ITV2 reality show Love Island

Trotman, who is out for the rest of the season with an achilles tendon injury, will enter the villa based in Cape Town in the coming days. 

And the National League North club have confirmed that Trotman has their blessing as he heads to South Africa

The press release read: ‘The possibility of Luke appearing on Love Island was discussed by Luke and club representatives, and he is doing rehab on the island under physio instruction. 

‘He has also gym access and a programme to continue rehab.’ 

Trotman will be the second footballer on the show after Finn Tapp entered the villa last Wednesday. 

The Oxford City defender is contracted to the National league South club, but as opposed to Trotman did not tell his club he would be flying to South Africa, as reported by Sports Agenda.

Tapp had to pass an ITV medical after a clash of heads in a 3-0 defeat against Dartford on January 11. 

Oxford insist they do not mind the right back going on the show, as they are confident he did not sustain concussion after an assessment by an independent doctor. 

This series of Love Island, the first to take place in the winter and in South Africa, started on January 12.
